Solution for Evil Jar 3 Quest

It seems the quest isn’t as buggy as it was. I managed to activate evil jar 3 quest after some tries.

After obtaining a full jar and completing evil jar 2 quest, you’ll need to click on Cassandra again to start off evil jar 3 quest. After clicking, if you suffer the problem of unable to access any portal, or change channel etc, do not log out immediately. Wait a while as the NPC is trying to pair you up with another mapler for the quest. Once the other mapler is found, above your character head will pop out a lightbulb indicating quest information, and you should received your empty yellow charm. Click on the lightbulb to find the person to trade him the charm. The receiving end needs to double click on the charm to convert it into a written charm and trade to return you. After which, you can find back Cassandra to complete the quest.

Tips to better complete the quest. Try channel 1. Usually a lot of people are doing the quest. If fail, re-login and attempt channel 2, 3, 4 and so on. You can forfeit the quest and restart if the selected mapler do not wish to help you.

MapleSEA 3rd Anniversary Quests Update

Some updates on the Anniversary Quests. Mainly look out for “Maple Administrator” and “Cassandra” NPCs located at all towns.

“Maple Administrator” NPC allows you to exchange for 3rd Anniversary’s Maple weapons using previous anniversary’s Maple weapons (lvl 35 and 43) and certain numbers of maple leaf (1000 to 1500). You may also get your Maple hat, 3rd anniversary scrolls, and activate the Maple earring Quest here. The maple leaf drop rate is pretty high. My advice for you is to hunt monster that you can one-hit-ko (OHKO) with, if you are just aiming to hunt for a lot of maple leaf. The maple leaf free market (FM) price, starts from 30k per leaf on Thursday night, to 20k per leaf on Friday morning, and now to 10k per leaf on Friday night. Defintely, it’s going to drop further more, and more and more maplers begins to sell the maple leaf, there will be a surge in supply compared to the demand slow down. On the other hand, prices for old Maple weapons have doubled (3 to 10mil depending on weapon category, with claw and staff/wand being the most expensive so far). Therefore, if you are really no urgent to upgrade/get/own the new Maple weapons, it is better to save your mesoes and WAIT!

“Cassandra” NPC provides the “Evil Jar Quest”, “Fortune Telling Quest”, “Everyday Quest”, and “Anniversary Quizes”. It is recommended to do the “Anniversary Quizes” as it is a good means to get free EXP and free “Monster Crystals”. “Fortune Telling Quest” gives 2x drop rate for 2 hours upon activation, and ”Everyday Quest” gives 10% bonus EXP for choice of monster, also lasts 2 hours upon activation, and both are repeatable on a daily basis. It is advisable not to do the “Evil Jar Quest” now, as the quest is buggy where you hit the ”Evil Jar 3″ portion. Your maple client will behave abnormally (cannot change channel, enter portal etc), and might crashed (MS Visual C++ error, just blank black screen). Let’s just wait for a patch to resolve these bugs. 

Also, somehow I felt as if the Maple weapons’ drop rate are pretty low. After hunting for 2 hrs, I don’t get any Maple weapons except Maple leafs and jar pieces. Zzz!

Last but not least, hold your horses, don’t missed out Saturday 2000 hrs to 2200 hrs 2x EXP event at all worlds, and coming monday’s 2x EXP event from 1000 hrs to 2200 hrs 2x EXP events. The “Everyday Quest” event 10% bonus EXP will stack! That means if you play during a 2X EXP event, equipped with a 2x EXP card (cash item), and with the “Everyday Quest” event, you are easily getting 4.4x EXP in total, exlcuding other party bonuses, and holy symbol add-ons!

Good news is that MapleSEA is up at 2330 hrs after 23 hours and 30 mins of gruelling server maintenance and client update. And, as mentioned in early post, I’ve mirrored the patch here as well! Get them here.

Update (15-05-2008):

The client patch was re-scheduled to today early hours 0000 hrs to 1900 hrs (+8 GMT).
Once the manual client patch is out, we will mirror it here!

The “Level Up Event” wasn’t a free level up event as thought of. It might be to get you free maple leaf,  (level + 11), so if you are level up to 100, you’ll get (100 + 11) maple leaves. Read more here.

Some corrections. It seems that we are skipping v.055 and going into v.056 straight? Let’s hope it isn’t an administrative fault. Anyway, here’s the updated patch information.

MIA 2 weeks - Maplestory Private Server?

I was MIA for 2 weeks, taking a short break but at the same time also doing some personal testing of private maplestory server (Sorry. No links here. But you can google for it.). Yes. I got it running on both linux and windows platform. It was cool. For windows platform, I run it on a 512MB Windows XP SP2 virtual machine. Pretty straight forward setup exactly based on the guide given. For linux platform, I run it on a VPS. There’s tweaking to be done. CPU utilisation is pretty low, however memory consumption was horrifying high, 512MB at least for a small test server.

Here’s some screenshots:

The memory usage is horrifying. More than 512Mb.

Only 1 channel, but you can scale up to full 20 channels if you have the resources.

I am a super GM!

10,000x EXP rate if you notice, a LVL 120 dragon knight in less than an hour time.

10,000x Meso rate, basically you can adjust the rates anytime, anyhow.

1 billion mesoes - Server-side data are stored in a MySQL database which you have full access.

A NPC used to customise job advancement without questing.

In short, for personal testing, it’s fun. And, you have the power to take control of every game details. But, it is quite boring if there isn’t a strong player base. That’s what makes MMORPG interesting and fun.
